The Crooked Goose is proud to sponsor & partner with Feeding America West Michigan at our VIP event on June 7th. Crooked Goose will donate a portion of all beverage sales at the event & donate the proceeds to the local Grand Rapids food bank. Attendees are also encouraged to donate spare change to help the cause.
Feeding America West Michigan supplies 100,000 families with emergency food. In 2010, with the help of donors and community members, Feeding America West Michigan provided Michigan families with 24.7 million pounds of food at the food bank. When donating, a little bit of help will go a long way to help Michigan children, the elderly and their families get back on their feet.
Below are just a few of the ways you can help out Feeding America West Michigan, to help end hunger in your community:
Give Money. Every dollar you can spare for the Food Bank lets us reclaim and
distribute enough food for three meals. Just $26 will feed a family of
four for a week.
Give Time. The Food Bank welcomes—and relies on—volunteers 13 and older (or younger
when accompanied by parents or guardians). Volunteers work in our
warehouses, at our mobile pantry distributions and even on farms picking
produce. They save us tons of money, which goes directly into obtaining
more food. And they have tons of fun!
Give Food. Join the more than 100 farmers, manufacturers, distributors, grocers and restaurateurswho fight waste and hunger by giving us their edible
surplus food. Significant tax deductions and liability coverage apply.
Spread the Word. In these tough times, the need for food is growing fast throughout West
Michigan, even among hard-working families. Help us keep up by talking
up how the Food Bank feeds families by starving landfills

New restaurant in Walker holds strong to local rootsby supporting local vendors & suppliers
Meritage Hospitality Group, the
locally owned and operated restaurateur who brought you Twisted Rooster, will
spread its local roots at the opening of the Crooked Goose on June 11. Like its
affiliate eatery, Crooked Goose is an advocate for the buy-local revolution in Michigan.
Both Meritage restaurants support
local vendors and suppliers, which cultivates the economy in western Michigan, provides
jobs and stimulates economic growth. “All of our locations get their goods from
companies within 20 miles of the restaurant, which keeps the money we spend on
food very local,” says Mark Noseda II, Executive Chef at the Crooked Goose and
Twisted Rooster.
Not only will Meritage’s support of
the buy-local revolution stimulate the economy, it will also encourage the community
to consume farm-fresh foods on a daily basis. “When I moved to West Michigan I
had no idea of the amazing produce that this side of the state offers. It reminded me of my time in California,”
says Noseda. “It is incredible the freshness of the products we receive in
Grand Rapids. When I cut into a tomato
picked the day before we serve it, it is just incredible.”
The Commit to the Mitt campaign was
conceptualized around a table of Meritage executives who were concerned about
the crumbling economy throughout the U.S., specifically in Michigan. “We knew
we had to do something,” says Gary Rose, Vice President of Meritage Hospitality
Group. “Then and there we were committed to local products: local beers, local contractors, local art,
local everything.”
Commit to the Mitt is an opportunity
to create growth and spur communal unity throughout greater Grand Rapids. “Twisted
Rooster & Crooked Goose use local products as much as possible, and always
will,” says Noseda.
Meritage Hospitality Group, the
locally owned restaurateur who brought Grand Rapids Twisted Rooster pioneered a
new dining concept, Crooked Goose, due to open June 11. Its plaid exterior,
hand-crafted fare and modern atmosphere make it a must-see in Walker, MI.
Like its affiliate eatery, Twisted
Rooster, Crooked Goose holds strong to local values, through the support of resident
vendors & suppliers through their "Commit to the Mitt" campaign. “We
are a company based in Michigan, who looks to lead the charge in building a
culture in our great state that focuses solely on locally made products,” says
Tom Brady, Director of Operations for Crooked Goose and Twisted Rooster. “Keep
it in the family!”
Not only is the food local, it is
original. Executive Chef Mark Noseda II, who has a long list of culinary
credentials from across the United States, designed nearly 50 options for the
exclusive menu. “We really don’t do traditional, we take traditional and Twist
it or make it Crooked,” says Noseda. “Anyone can make a traditional dish but
making it your own is what being a Chef is all about.”
The food is inventive and so is the
atmosphere. The plaid exterior, modern décor, 15 seat bar and 16 51-inch flat-screen TVs are sure to gain local attention. Meritage Hospitality
Group’s architect, Mark McDowell, came up with the eccentric exterior. “We are
really excited,” says Lindsay Stone, Marketing Specialist for Meritage
Hospitality Group. “Nothing draws the public in better than painting plaid on
the side of our building; it’s going to look really great.”
Although Crooked Goose is not open to
the public until mid-June, there will be a pre-opening, VIP party and private
taste-testing to get Noseda and the staff warmed up before the big opening. “As
we build relationships with our schools, churches and other businesses, the
Crooked Goose will be there to support and help achieve community goals,” says
Brady. “We are very excited to become a valued member of the community.”
